Over the course of this 6 week class, students will be given an opportunity for a more in-depth study of Copperplate Script. We will discuss a brief history of the script, an overview of tools and materials and instruction on how to use them. Students will be given guidance on basic strokes using a traditional steel nib and oblique pen holder and instruction on both the upper and lowercase alphabets. After discussing layout, we will work to create a simple calligraphic piece. With detailed exemplars and guide sheets, students will will be encouraged to practice skills at home between class sessions and have the opportunity for review of practice sheets with the instructor. No calligraphy experience (or good handwriting!) needed, advanced or intermediate students will also benefit from guidance by an experienced instructor.
Supplies NOT included in cost of tuition (a supply list will be shared upon registration)
