Cheryl’s fascination with lettering began in childhood, watching her grandpa write beautiful letters on parchment paper in his little basement studio. His unmistakable delight in his craft eventually inspired Cheryl to take up a pen of her own.

In 2001, she founded Cheryl Dyer Calligraphy + Lettering. With a degree in communication and art from Iowa State University, Cheryl’s work is grounded in a deep grasp of traditional, historically-based scripts, combined with a strong sense of the fresh and modern.

Cheryl loves to collaborate with clients, creating bespoke pieces that express their vision. Her work includes commercial lettering, personal artwork and commissions, resolution and certificate work, and social calligraphy.

She also teaches classes for students who want to learn traditional lettering or develop their own modern scripts. As part of her effort to foster calligraphic art, Cheryl co-founded the Letter Arts Alliance of the Midwest, which offers workshops and exhibitions from artists around the country as well as local talent. When she’s not in the studio, you can find her experimenting with new recipes, rock climbing with her husband, or deep in conversation over a glass of rose.
